Hello! A while ago, Stepan asked me to email him photos of our house. Instead, I decided to put them on the web so that you all could see them. Click on a thumbnail to see the full image. All images are less than 50K.
First, the hall, stairs and landing:
So far we have stripped all the wallpaper from here and put on a new front door. We have also removed the wall banister rail and replaced the old school safety glass (!) with proper spindles. Dad also turned an acorn to put on the end of the banister.
Walk through the front door and turning left through the first door you come to brings you in to the living room:
This was probably the room least in need of immediate work, so we have left it for the time being. But that fireplace has to go!
Walking back out of the living room and turning left again will bring you to the dining room:
We have stripped the wallpaper from the walls and most of the old paint from the window frame and the skirting boards. We tried filling in the holes on the wall and painting, but the walls are in such a bad way that we are going to have to get a plasterer in to at least skim the walls.
If you look out of the windows of the dining room, you can see the garden:
This is one place we are leaving mostly alone until we have finished working on the inside of the house. We may get to it in 3 or 4 years!
If you leave the dining room and turn left, you come to the kitchen:
We haven't done anything to the kitchen yet. It is almost clean and functional, so we are leaving it for the time being!
Though the kitchen, you come to the downstairs loo and utility are:
As soon as we moved in we ripped up the original carpet tiles and put down some new flooring. Dad has also replaced the old original cast iron windows with some new double glazed units and put on a new back door.
OK... that is about it for the downstairs, so its up the dancers to see the bedrooms. The main bedroom at the front of the house is Emma's and mine:
Err... it's a bit pink! We have done practically nothing to this room yet, except have the old gas fire removed for safety reasons.
The second bedroom is at the back of the house, looking out over the garden:
This is another room that we have stripped of wallpaper, and again we found that the walls are in such a bad way that we will need to get a plasterer in.
The third bedroom is at the front of the house and is the smallest bedroom:
This is probably the room we have done most work on. We stripped all the wallpaper, painted and put a new floor down. Once it was clean all my computer gear got shifted in to this room, along with a bed, my old stereo and a lot of book cases - we now call it the Toy Room!
Finally, there is the upstairs bathroom:
Its got the usual stuff: a shower, bath, basin and toilet.
Well, there you have it! When we do more work and get more photos taken, I'll update this page and let you know.
